Nominees for World Refugee Day 2006

Deo Ladislas Ndakengerwa

DeoDeo has been very active in issues pertaining to Refugees and Asylum seekers's health and wellbeing. His special activities which are incommensurably lives changing are nominally and very extensive. These have reached and reversed the course of life for not only individuals, but also for communities who hail his courage and personal abnegation to helping others. Deo is one of the rare persons who take their free time to visit asylum seekers in different hospitals across Greater Dublin Kildare areas; these wouldn't have none to visit them as they do not have any family around.

Memet Uludag

Memet

Memet is originally from Turkey and is now working as an IT Engineer. He has worked as a volunteer computer teacher with SPIRASI for the past five years. By the nature of being a volunteer, it can be difficult to find volunteers who are willing to commit themselves wholly for a long time period of time and who will always be available. Memet is one of such volunteers. Through his five years at SPIRASI he has consistently given two hours teaching every Tuesday evening for the thirty-six week teaching calendar per year.

Anita Layden

Anita

Anita has worked with SPIRASI as a volunteer for a year now. She provides and invaluable service to our clients offering legal advice in relation to their Asylum applications. Anita clinic takes place once a week on a Wednesday evening for a three hour session. Her books are full with names of clients eager to access her service. Anita's dedication to SPIRASI and our clients can be seen through her work as a volunteer teacher in the past. She has also volunteered as a mentor within our Mentoring Programme which aides the integration of Refugees and Asylum seekers into their local community offering outreach support and advice.
